BRISTOL PHILATELIC SOCIETY NEWSLETTER CHRISTMAS 2024
And BANG the New Programme for 2024-25 magically emerges from the President’s lair with 30 events spread between the Redland and Woodspring venues starting 9th September 1924. Not only are the 30 members treated to a fine year of events but the year starts with a new Honorary Treasurer in Phil Shipp (ex Woodlands) and Honorary Secretary Robert de Smit. A huge thank you to John Edwards the out-going Treasurer (now 95 would you believe) and Arlene Powell who has taken up another challenge – thank you to you both and look forward to seeing you enjoy our future meetings.
The Members Auction starting the year was a success albeit stressful for the secretary who had challenging moments summing auction lots together – in the end all came good. That the members have been active creating entertaining evenings such as the Auction, Members New Buys and Old Favorites, The Open Evening, Something I also Collect and Members Favorite Stamps is also highly appreciated and echoing our President ‘Thank you to all for contributing and supporting these evenings’.
The Open evening was a success – I know of two non-members keen to join our next agreed date!
The Guest speakers have also given insight to the wealth of study made in their chosen fields giving members an opportunity to learn and get inspired.
Alas for one member – a multi cup winner in ‘Greens & Lilacs’, ‘Early Air Crash Covers’ and ‘Cinderella’s – time has come to an end. John Roe, a loved member, passed away on 25th October 24 – he will be much missed – condolences to Alex, his wife, and family.
By Christmas 24 we will have two new members who we have welcomed to the Society. We hope they find the evenings entertaining and feel inspired enough to participate in the events ahead.
